Break your enterprise down into the smallest independent work groups and business units possible. A team of 5 to 7 people (the size of a hunting gathering party) is superior to a team of 25 to 50 peo-ple (the size of an extended family) which is superior to a team of 125 to 350 (the size of a tribe). Some ventures, such as Dam construction, require large masses of people. The vast majority do not. Because of its superior maneuverability a hummingbird can easily chase off a hawk 100 times its size. It is the hawk that is at the disadvantage, not the hummingbird. Use small independent units to give you the same advantages of agility and maneuverability. Most ventures lose their competitive advantage when they exceed 300 or more people. Look around. It is not the large that eat the small, it is the quick that eat the slow. It’s your choice: quick and agile predator - or plodding prey. Which role in the economic ecosystem do you choose for yourself?
